Receiving Duplicate Weekly Digest (Summary) Emails: Causes and How to Fix

The weekly summary email in Automox is the Weekly Digest of Automox Activity, an optional email each user enables on their own profile. If you receive more than one copy of the digest for the same period, work through the causes below in order. Most duplicates come from account or subscription configuration and can be resolved without contacting support.

Applies to

  • Users or organizations receiving two or more copies of the Weekly Digest of Automox Activity email.

Background: how the weekly digest is sent

The Weekly Digest of Automox Activity is a per-user email preference, set under Settings → Profile → Notifications. Each user enables or disables it on their own profile, and there is no single organization-wide toggle. The digest reports activity for one organization, so the same person can legitimately receive more than one digest when they are subscribed in more than one place.

Cause 1: you belong to more than one organization

If you have access to multiple Automox organizations and the digest is enabled in more than one, each organization sends its own digest. This is expected behavior rather than a defect.

How to fix it:

  1. Note the organizations you belong to using the organization switcher at the top of the console.
  2. Decide which organization, or organizations, you want the digest from.
  3. Switch into each organization where you do not want it, open Settings → Profile → Notifications, and turn off Weekly Digest of Automox Activity.
  4. Leave it enabled only where you want it.

Cause 2: an old or duplicate user account still exists

If your email address changed, or you were invited more than once, an older user account can remain active and keep receiving the digest. This often appears as one digest to your current address and another tied to a previous address that still forwards to you.

How to fix it:

  1. A Full Administrator opens the Settings menu in the top-right of the console and selects Users.
  2. Search for the old or duplicate email address.
  3. If a matching account is found, select it, choose Actions → Remove User, and confirm.
  4. If that account holds an Account Administrator or Global Administrator role, its role must be lowered before it can be removed.

Cause 3: a scheduled Analytics report lists the recipient more than once

A scheduled Analytics board can deliver what looks like a duplicate digest when the same person is listed as a recipient more than once, for example both an old and a current email address, or on more than one schedule.

How to fix it:

  1. Go to Insights → Analytics and open the scheduled board.
  2. Select Schedule → Manage schedules.
  3. Review the recipient list and remove any duplicate or outdated addresses.

Cause 4: a shared mailbox or forwarding rule

If the digest is delivered to a shared mailbox or distribution list, or a forwarding rule copies it to another inbox, more than one person can see what appears to be a duplicate. Confirm whether the receiving address is shared or forwarded before changing Automox settings.

If none of the above apply

If you receive two identical digests at the same address within a few minutes of each other, and this affects multiple administrators in a single organization, the duplication is in message delivery rather than in your configuration. Contact Automox Support and include the full email headers of two of the duplicate messages. Support can review the delivery logs to confirm the source and escalate for further investigation if needed.

Verify the fix

Digest emails are sent on a weekly schedule, so a configuration change takes effect at the next scheduled send rather than immediately. After the next send, confirm you receive a single digest.
