Insights → Analytics Is Not Visible in the Console: Required Permissions and Plan

The Analytics page lives under Insights → Analytics in the Automox console and provides the dashboards for patch progress, security gaps, and device trends. If you do not see Insights or Analytics in the left navigation, it is almost always because your assigned role does not include the required reporting permission. This article walks through the cause, how to confirm it, and the one plan-related edge case.

Applies to

  • Users who cannot see the Insights section or the Analytics page in the Automox console.
  • Administrators who need to grant a user access to Analytics.

Cause 1 (most common): your role is missing the "Reports: Read" permission

Visibility of the Analytics page is controlled by a single permission: Reports: Read, scoped to the organization you are trying to view. If your role does not include it, the Analytics page (and the reporting content under Insights) will not appear.

Most built-in roles already include Reports: Read:

  • Full Administrator
  • Organization Operator
  • Patch Operator
  • Helpdesk Operator
  • Billing Administrator
  • Read Only

If you are on a custom role, or a built-in role that does not grant Reports: Read (for example, Account Administrator), Analytics will not be shown.

How to fix it:

  1. Ask a Full Administrator to review your assigned role under Settings, using Roles and Permissions Management.
  2. Confirm whether that role includes the Reports: Read permission.
  3. If it does not, either assign a role that includes Reports: Read, or add the Reports: Read permission to your custom role.
  4. Sign out and back in so the updated permissions take effect, then re-check Insights → Analytics.

Cause 2: the permission is scoped to a different organization

Permissions are granted per organization. You will only see Analytics in an organization where your role includes Reports: Read. If Analytics appears in one organization but not another, the fix is not a plan or a bug: confirm you are in the correct organization using the switcher at the top of the console, and that your role in that organization includes Reports: Read.

Cause 3 (rare): the subscription does not include reporting

Automox includes reporting and analytics across its current subscription tiers, with no separate add-on for dashboards, exports, or analytics. Because of this, plan is rarely the reason the page is missing.

The exception to check: if the entire Insights section is absent for everyone in the organization, including confirmed Full Administrators with Reports: Read, the account may be on a legacy or limited edition that does not surface Analytics. In that case, confirm your subscription entitlement with your Automox account team rather than adjusting permissions.

How to confirm which cause applies

  1. Have a Full Administrator open Insights → Analytics. If the admin can see it and you cannot, the cause is your role or your organization scope (Cause 1 or 2), not the plan.
  2. If no one in the organization can see Insights, including a Full Administrator with Reports: Read, escalate as a subscription or entitlement question (Cause 3).
