Corrupted Service Account Password for Mac M1/M2

When using the terminal method to enter admin credentials for the SecureToken, the following error may appear:

Troubleshooting Steps

Prerequisites

  1. Ensure you have admin access to the affected Mac device.
  2. Confirm the device is connected to the network and visible in the Automox console.

Step 1: Scan the Device

  1. Open the Automox console.
  2. Navigate to the Devices page.
  3. Select the affected device, click Actions, and choose Scan.

Step 2: Check the Service Account

After the scan, check the service account status using:

sudo sysadminctl -secureTokenStatus _automoxserviceaccount
  • If the status shows ENABLED, the issue is resolved. Check for green compatibility status in the Automox console.

Step 3: Remove and Reinstall the Agent

  1. Remove the Automox Service Account:
    sudo /usr/bin/dscl . -delete /Users/_automoxserviceaccount
  1. Uninstall the Automox agent by following Automox Agent Removal Instructions.
  2. Reinstall the Automox agent by referring to the Agent Installation Overview.
  3. Authenticate the Automox Service Account for Apple Silicon devices as described in the Agent Configuration Guide.
  4. Verify device compatibility in the console.
