Cannot open application due to permissions(?)
Recently, an update has been applied to your MacBook and you seemingly no longer can open an application due to...permissions?
Sometimes, when updating a third-party application, the link can be "broken" in the Action Bar while it's being updated by Automox.

Steps to resolution
- Open your Finder, and head to the "Applications" (/Applications) folder
- "Drag" the broken app from Applications to your Dock, and that's it! Make sure the application is pinned to your dock and you should be good to go.
If you’ve had the error message “ You do not have permission to open the application “XXXX”, it’s likely the link to the third-party application may have been broken in the update. This article provides guidance on how to restore the link in your Taskbar’s pinned apps.
Symptoms
- Attempting to open an application results in a permissions-related error.
- The application appears unresponsive in the Dock.
Cause
When Automox updates third-party applications, the link between the application in the /Applications folder and the Dock may break, causing permissions issues.
Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
- Open the Finder and navigate to the /Applications folder.
- Locate the application that cannot be opened.
- Drag the application from /Applications to the Dock.
- Confirm the application is pinned to the Dock.
If the issue persists:
- Check the application's permissions in Finder by right-clicking and selecting "Get Info." Ensure the current user has Read & Write access.
- Reinstall the application from a verified source.
