Resolving Microsoft Error: 0x80240022
This error has been observed in "Patch Failed" emails and in the Report > Activity Log. To resolve the issue, follow the steps below.
Prerequisites
- Ensure you have administrative privileges on the system.
Steps to Resolution
1. Stop the Windows Update Service
- Open the Start Menu and type services.msc, then press Enter.
- In the Services window, locate Windows Update in the list.
- Right-click on Windows Update and select Stop.
2. Clear the Update Cache
- Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and press Enter.
- In the opened folder, delete all contents. (Use Ctrl + A to select all files and folders, then press Delete.)
3. Restart the Windows Update Service
- Return to the Services window.
- Right-click Windows Update and select Start.
Troubleshooting

- Deleting the SoftwareDistribution contents does not remove installed updates but clears the update cache.
