Can Automox Patch Driver or Firmware/Hardware Updates?

When it comes to drivers, BIOS, or firmware updates, Automox cannot perform these updates automatically. This is because the BIOS and firmware operate independently of the operating system (e.g., Linux, Windows, macOS). Unlike OS patches or third-party software updates, BIOS and firmware updates are not available through OS repositories, and Automox does not natively support them.

What Automox Supports

Automox’s Patch All policy covers:

  • Operating system patches
  • Supported third-party software updates

The policy details state:

Patch All: Use this policy type to patch all supported software, including all operating system patches and supported third-party software.

Limitations

BIOS, firmware, and hardware updates require specific update packages that are typically manufacturer-provided and not directly managed through Automox.

Workarounds Using Automox

If you have access to the update package or installation file, you can deploy it using one of the following methods:

  1. Required Software Policy: Configure a policy to push the update file to target devices and run the installer.
  2. Worklet: Use custom scripts to automate the update process.

Tip: Ensure you test the Worklet or Required Software Policy in a controlled environment before deploying to production.
